Phophyong, Second Hometown to Kim Il Sung
Pyongyang, January 22 (KCNA) -- There is the Phophyong Revolutionary Site in Kim Hyong Jik County, Ryanggang Province in the northern part of Korea.

It is the place where President Kim Il Sung crossed the River Amnok to embark on the road of revolution at the age of 14, with a firm pledge that he would not return home unless he liberated Korea from the Japanese colonial rule.

Recalling the day, Kim Il Sung in his reminiscences "With the Century" said:

"I thought: My dear Korea, I am leaving you. I know I cannot live even for a moment away from you, but I am crossing the Amnok to win you back. Across this river is a foreign land, but I will not forget you, even in there. Wait for me, my Korea.

Then I sang the song of the River Amnok again."

At the site there are a statue portraying Kim Il Sung crossing the River Amnok, the Phophyong revolutionary museum, etc.

One day in July Juche 77 (1988), the President told officials that Phophyong was his second hometown.

When visiting Phophyong in September 1991, he sang the "Song of the River Amnok" together with officials and lecturers, looking back on the days when he made the 1 000-ri (250-mile) journey for national liberation.

The site also has the Monument to the Phophyong Revolutionary Site, which tells about the revolutionary activities of Kim Il Sung and the feats of his family members who devoted their all to the freedom of the people and the liberation of Korea.
