Rodong Sinmun Urges Disbandment of "UN Command"
Pyongyang, January 20 (KCNA) -- Whether the U.S. dissolves the "UN Command" immediately or not is a touchstone showing whether it wants peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region or seeks the revival of the Cold War, says Rodong Sinmun Sunday in a bylined commentary.

The specter of the Cold War, i.e. "UN Command" is again haunting in the Asia-Pacific region, the biggest hotspot in the world, the commentary notes, and goes on:

The U.S. is working hard to make the "UN Command" appear a legitimate one but in vain.

The "UN Command" is a war mechanism the U.S. organized by abusing the UN name for the purpose of hurling armed forces of its allies into the Korean war and exercising the prerogative of command over them.

The UN is no longer what used to be in the 1950s when the U.S. could fake up the "UN Command" as it pleased.

20 years have passed since the DPRK was admitted to the UN as its full member.

In order to restore the authority and impartiality of the UN it is necessary dissolve the "UN Command" without delay.

The "UN Command" is a dreg of the times as its disbandment was already declared at the UN General Assembly session.

Nevertheless, the "UN Command" still exists and is reviving as a war mechanism of multi-national armed forces. It should never be overlooked in view of ensuring the security in the Korean Peninsula and the Asia-Pacific region.

Steadfast is the stand of the DPRK government to make a positive contribution to safeguarding the peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula and the rest of Asia.

The DPRK will make steady efforts to deter any forms of war till the U.S. makes a right choice.
