Saenal, Korea's First Revolutionary Newspaper
Pyongyang, January 15 (KCNA) -- The history of revolutionary media in Korea began with birth of the newspaper Saenal (New Day).

After forming the Down-with-Imperialism Union in October Juche 15 (1926), President Kim Il Sung paid big efforts to enlightening the popular masses.

As part of the work, he proposed publishing a newspaper and worked heart and soul to that effect. His proposal enjoyed full support from members of the Saenal Children's Union and the Paeksan Youth League and they took the gloves off in publishing the newspaper.

He personally wrote articles to be carried in the first issue of the newspaper.

His mother, Kang Pan Sok, a preeminent leader of the Korean women's liberation movement, took upon herself the work of securing paper, printing ink and stencil paper and making delivery of newspaper.

His younger brother, Kim Chol Ju, an indomitable revolutionary fighter, dedicated articles to the newspaper.

At last, the first issue of the newspaper Saenal was published in Fusong of China on Jan. 15, Juche 17 (1928).

The newspaper became very popular among readers for its revolutionary and appealing news items and greatly contributed to arousing the broad masses to an anti-Japanese struggle.
