Education Improved in DPRK in 2012
Pyongyang, December 29 (KCNA) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea has made a long stride in education this year.

The Sixth Session of the 12th Supreme People's Assembly, held on Sept. 25, promulgated an ordinance on enforcing universal 12-year compulsory education.

Big efforts were paid to putting education on IT basis to meet the need of the era of knowledge-based economy. Computer-based education has stood on a high level at universities and other schools.

Further improvement was made in contents and ways of education as well as qualification of teachers. New subjects were added to education at universities.

A number of universities, including Kim Il Sung University, Kim Chaek University of Technology and Pyongyang Han Tok Su University of Light Industry, made contributions to developing the nano products and streamlining the production processes at Pyongyang Kim Jong Suk Silk Mill and other factories.

The DPRK won two gold medals at the 53rd International Math Olympiad and the top and special prizes at the 20th International Juvenile Chopin Piano Contest.

The achievements were attributable to the dear respected Kim Jong Un's deep care and wise guidance over education.

He visited Mangyongdae Revolutionary School, Changjon Primary School and Kyongsang Kindergarten, giving important instructions for the development of education. He also sent many advanced educational and sports apparatuses to the schools.
