Kim Jong Il and Space Industry of DPRK
Pyongyang, December 26 (KCNA) -- The title of DPRK Hero was awarded on Dec. 22 to more than 100 scientists, technicians, workers and officials who greatly contributed to the successful launch of Kwangmyongsong 3-2.

Amid the warm congratulations of all people across the country the space developers are paying highest tribute to General Secretary Kim Jong Il who made great contributions to developing space industry of the country.

The peaceful development of space industry of the DPRK would be unthinkable without his leadership.

He laid out strategic polices for developing carrier rocket and satellite true to the noble intention of President Kim Il Sung who unfolded the grand plan for conquering space long ago and took an untrodden path for its materialization.

He visited the State Academy of Sciences on April 28, Juche 84 (1995) and clearly indicated the orientation and ways for putting technology of processing and interpreting information data of satellite onto a higher stage.

After some days, there appeared an institute specializing in researches into technology for satellite information processing and interpretation with an institute for remote survey and research into space as a parental center. It was made up of competent scientists in the fields of mathematics, physics and computer.

In the subsequent period he gave concrete teachings regarding all problems arising in developing satellite ranging from design to manufacture and launch and provided good research conditions.

When scientists made a failure, he encouraged them, saying they should not be discouraged and that he believed they would surely succeed.

Heartened by his trust, the space developers finished just in a year tens of thousands of designs and all kinds of technological documents which would otherwise take at least five years.

Through their painstaking inquiry and hard work they successfully manufactured and completed with their own efforts and technology in a brief span of time multi-stage carrier rocket and satellite which others failed to do for decades.

Kwangmyongsong 1, the first satellite of the DPRK, was launched some days before the 50th anniversary of the foundation of the DPRK in 1998 and Kwangmyongsong 2 in April 2009.

In this process, able specialists in the fields of satellite information processing and interpretation were trained and modern information processing equipment provided in the DPRK.

It became possible to interpret and assess land and natural environment and work out maps of various specific themes including the use of soil and plant distribution chart by use of satellite information.

In particular, the earth observation system based on satellite information was set up for swiftly and accurately estimating grain yield on a high scientific and technological level and monitoring and forecasting natural disasters such as flood, drought and forest fire.

All processes from the satellite launch and observation to reception and use of satellite information were made by our own wisdom and efforts and with indigenous technology, providing a solid scientific and technological foundation for putting space industry of the country onto a new higher stage.

The DPRK was compelled to make the Arduous March and forced march, shattering the moves of the imperialists to stifle it. It was a miracle of history that the DPRK developed by itself the latest science and technology including those related to space and nuclear development for over ten years.

Recently scientists and technicians of the DPRK successfully launched the working satellite, displaying the economic potentials and science and technology of Songun Korea, and thus carried out the behest of Kim Jong Il on launching scientific and technological satellite in 2012 marking the centenary of birth of Kim Il Sung.

The successful launch of satellite Kwangmyongsong 3-2, a special event in the nation's history spanning five thousand years, is the highest tribute the army and people of the DPRK presented to Kim Jong Il.

Everyone think in excitement that much Kim Jong Il would have been pleased very much if he saw this great jubilee of the nation.

All the service persons and people of the DPRK are unanimous in saying that a nation can demonstrate to the full its national capabilities and dignity only when it is led by great leaders.
