It was great fortune of the Korean nation that it held Kim Jong Il in high esteem as supreme commander of the revolutionary armed forces on Dec. 24, 1991 and this was a landmark event that provided a firm guarantee for the victory of the revolutionary cause of Juche, the editorial says, and goes on:

Kim Jong Il developed President Kim Il Sung's idea of attaching importance to arms and military affairs into the Juche-oriented idea of Songun, bolstered up the capability for self-defence in every way with the KPA as the core by providing Songun leadership and glorified the DPRK as the country of the great army-people unity and a power of single-minded unity.

Kim Jong Il formulated the philosophy of arms that a revolution starts and advances and is completed with arms, laid down the principle of Songun that army precisely means party, state and people and comprehensively systematized the Songun idea.

Songun politics was established as the party's powerful political mode under socialism and it has become a trait of society to solve all problems by dint of the revolutionary soldier spirit on the principle of giving priority to military affairs.

The whole army plays the role of reliable scouts and strong mainstay of the Songun revolution as it is taking the lead in carrying out the party's cause, regarding the spirit of devotedly defending the leader as their life and soul. This is the true picture of the Korean People's Army. The country has a solid self-supporting national defence industry capable of producing any weapon as it pleases, all people have been put under arms, the whole country has turned into a fortress and it has been converted into an invincible military power equipped with powerful war deterrent.

Single-minded unity has been remarkably consolidated through the drive of all people to learn from the soldier spirit and traits of the KPA.

Great army-people unity helped the country weather difficulties and stern trials and unfold a new history of greatest changes on this land. One victory after another was won in acute politico-military standoff with the imperialists and unprecedentedly great innovations and leap forward were effected thanks to the concerted efforts of the army and people.

The editorial calls for glorifying down through generations the history of Songun revolution of Kim Jong Il who laid solid foundations for the DPRK to prosper as the great Paektusan nation forever under the banner of Songun.
