Meeting Held for Application of Tuition Waiver Program to Korean Schools in Japan
Pyongyang, December 8 (KCNA) -- There took place in Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan on Nov. 18 a meeting demanding an immediate application of tuition-free program for senior high schools to the Korean schools in Japan.

The meeting was cosponsored by the Central Standing Committee of the Union of Korean Teachers and School Clerks in Japan, the Japan Teachers' Union and the Japan-Korea Society for Scientific and Educational Interchange.

It was attended by educational workers from Korean schools and other educational institutions in different parts of Japan.

Secretary General of the society Mamoru Sonobe made a keynote report at the meeting.

He denounced the Japanese government for excluding the Korean schools only from the application of the program, branding this as an unreasonable measure violating the international convention on human rights.

He referred to the fact that solidarity actions of Koreans in Japan and Japanese citizens for a solution to the issue are mounting high as the days go by.

Then followed speeches.

The speakers said that such discrimination against the Korean schools is a continuation of Japan's past colonial policy towards Korea.

A resolution calling for the application of the program was adopted at the meeting.
