Japan Urged to Take Responsible Approach towards Issue of Redeeming Its Past
Pyongyang, December 6 (KCNA) -- Japan should settle its inglorious past as early as possible, clearly facing up to the mind-set of not only the people of Korea but all other people of Asia and the world.

Rodong Sinmun on Thursday urges this in a bylined article.

It goes on:

All crimes committed by the Japanese imperialists in the Second World War still remain fresh in the memory of the people of Asia and the rest of the world despite the flow of time.

Asians' anti-Japanese sentiment has not yet subsided, and the world is now becoming strongly assertive demanding Japan admit, apologize for and redeem the past crimes committed by the Japanese imperialists.

There is, however, no positive change in the attitude of the Japanese reactionaries towards their past crimes. The successive reactionary forces of Japan have craftily worked to realize the old dream of "Greater East Asia Co-prosperity Sphere".

It is essential not only for others but for Japan itself to honestly repent of its past wrongs.

The Japanese imperialists can never shake off their guilty conscience nor can they forge genuine relations with the world people unless they make sincere repentance, apology and compensation for their most hideous unethical crimes.

No matter what rhetoric the Japanese authorities may use to evade the blame for their past crimes, they can neither deny the stark historical facts nor shake off the responsibility for redeeming them.

The world is closely watching the attitude of Japan.
