Prospect for North-South Relations Hinges on Struggle of Korean Nation: Rodong Sinmun
Pyongyang, December 5 (KCNA) -- The improvement of north-south relations and independent reunification of Korea depend on how the Koreans are awakened and struggle, says Rodong Sinmun Wednesday in a bylined article.

Over the past five years the Koreans have more keenly realized that the improvement of the north-south relations is the only way of hewing out the independent destiny of the nation, the article notes, and goes on:

The emergence of the Lee Myung Bak regime brought the south Koreans big disillusion and bitter frustration. The inter-Korean relations and the situation on the Korean Peninsula were completely brought back to the era of confrontation before the publication of the June 15 joint declaration due to the moves of the Lee group of traitors. The group has been hell-bent on the moves for confrontation with fellow countrymen and provocations against the north, pursuing sycophancy towards the U.S., inter-Korean confrontation and fascist dictatorship and ruthlessly violating the dignity and interests of the people.

The Koreans are now unanimously claiming that they should not allow the reemergence of such regime seeking confrontation and war as the Lee Myung Bak regime in south Korea. All the Koreans in the north and the south and abroad hope to see a new spring of concord and peace come to this land where confrontation with fellow countrymen and the danger of war prevail.

It is the wishes of the people and the will of the nation desirous of improved inter-Korean relations to see pro-democracy and pro-reform forces come to power in south Korea. It is as clear as noonday that if those forces calling for national reconciliation and unity emerge, the inter-Korean relations will improve and the June 15 era of reunification will be carried forward.

The history of confrontation with fellow countrymen should not be allowed to go on. It is an important task facing the present generation to put the earliest possible end to the tragedy of division and the danger of war that have lasted for several decades.

All the Koreans in the north and the south and abroad should not forget the national duty they have assumed before history and the posterity.
