Acupuncture Therapy Put on Scientific Basis in DPRK
Pyongyang, November 30 (KCNA) -- The Academy of Koryo Medicine of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea has succeeded in applying the chart of meridian nerve points to treatment of facial nerve paralysis, slipped intervertebral disk, cerebral thrombosis and other intractable diseases.

The chart refers to acupuncture points with Kyongrak (channels and collaterals) drawn on a model of human body. The theory on Kyongrak, found some 2 000 years ago, deals with anatomical and physiological features.

After scores of years of research into Kyongrak, the academy made a metal model chart of meridian nerve points for the first time in the early 1990s, which was developed into the chart of national value later.

The chart put acupuncture therapy on a more scientific basis.

The chart's specification was introduced in books of the International Society of Acupuncture and has been applied to medical treatment in other countries.
