Remarkable Activities of DPRK Red Cross Society
Pyongyang, November 26 (KCNA) -- The Red Cross Society (RCS) of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea has striven to protect and improve life, health and welfare of the local people through its disaster management and public health service activities.

The RCS has emergency teams at its central and provincial branches throughout the country and organizes and dispatches relief squads to areas liable to disasters while giving various short courses and practical training to volunteers. It also runs non-permanent emergency relief squads to cope with such cases as fire, storm and drowning.

Meanwhile, the Society has worked hard to prevent traffic accident and ensure the safety of roads. And it set up thousands of first aid posts in local residential quarters while conducting medical service and information activities about hygiene.

It pays efforts to establishing the clean drinking water supply system and building or renovating sewage treatment facilities. In cooperation with relevant organs and its branches the Society provides short courses on building, establishment and maintenance of the water supply and drainage system, disposal of garbage, etc.

Besides, in reliance on many volunteers, the Red Cross Society is offering mental and material assistance to disabled and aged persons and families with many children.

The RCS has strengthened cooperation with the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
