Korean Alphabet Boasts of National Superiority
Pyongyang, October 29 (KCNA) -- The Korean alphabet is a pride and honor of the Korean nation.

The Koreans, who built a state early in the 30th century B.C., created peculiar national letters for the first time in the East.

Historical documents, including Samguksagi (Chronicles of the Three Kingdoms), Samgukyusa (History of the Three Kingdoms) and Rijo Sillok (Chronicles of the Ri Dynasty), elaborate on the Sinji characters, ancient letters of the Korean nation which were used in the period of King Tangun's Korea. Each character is refined in stroke and simple in the principle of stroke combination.

The Sinji characters developed into Hunminjongum (Korean alphabet) in the 15th century. The word Hunminjonum means upright instructions for teaching the people.

Hunminjongum was made on the basis of shapes of speech organs like tongue, lips, teeth and throat. Its main characters were 28, with 17 consonants and 11 vowels. And its alphabetical order was scientifically arranged with a clear-cut structure and system. Easy to write and speak, it can fully express vocal sounds of any language.

Linguists and informatics experts of different countries have said that the Korean alphabet is most ideal to be used as the world's current language or computer language.

The Korean alphabet placed first at the 1st World Letter Olympiad in October 2009 and at the 2nd World Letter Olympiad recently held in Bangkok.
