S. Korean Organizations Call for End to War Drumbeat
Pyongyang, October 25 (KCNA) -- Civic and social organizations in Kwangju area of south Korea including the People for Achieving Peace and Reunification, the Solidarity for Progress and the Confederation of Trade Unions held a press conference in Kwangju on Oct. 22, urging the government authorities to immediately stop the racket for fabricating "north wind".

They said a touch-and-go situation is prevailing on the Korean Peninsula in the wake of the conservative organizations' declaration of their operation to scatter anti-DPRK leaflets.

If the "government" doesn't want a war, it should observe the agreement between the south and the north on stopping the mud-slinging through broadcasting, the display of posters and scattering of leaflets in the area along the military demarcation line, they held.

They accused the authorities of resorting to the moves to fake up a fresh "north wind" with the "presidential" election at hand. To cite a few examples, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff cried out for "a preemptive attack in retaliation against provocation" and Lee Myung Bak appeared on Yonphyong Island and called for "punishment."

It urged the "government" and the conservative forces to halt their war drumbeat to stay in power and their operations to scatter anti-DPRK leaflets and bring those responsible for them to justice.
