Song Un Song, Promising Athlete of DPRK
Pyongyang, October 24 (KCNA) -- Song Un Song, a student at Korea University of Physical Education, set a new national record in the men's 200-metre race held on October 6 as part of the 12th People's Sports Contest now under way in the DPRK. It was the first new record at the current contest.

Earlier, he breasted the tape in the 100-metre dash, becoming a co-holder of the national record. He also played a key role in making his team prove successful in a relay event and thus bagged three medals including two gold medals.

Song broke the national record in the 100-metre dash at the Indoor Athletic Championship held last year.

He started his career as an athlete at the age of 13 at a district juvenile sports school and began training track and field at the university when he was 15 years old.

Song told KCNA that he owes his good results to the assiduous coaching of university teachers, fellow athletes' encouragement and his parents' support. His father works at a farm in Hyongjesan District, Pyongyang.

Track and field experts think he is a promising athlete.
