Unwarranted Suppression of Pro-reunification Activists Denounced in S. Korea
Pyongyang, October 16 (KCNA) -- The South Headquarters of the Pan-national Alliance for Korea's Reunification (Pomminryon) and other civic and social organizations in south Korea held a press conference on Oct. 11 to denounce the Supreme Court for its anti-reunification action.

The speakers said that the Supreme Court held a trial on an appeal on the same day in which it ruled that the original judgment passed against Chairman of the South Headquarters of Pomminryon Ri Kyu Jae, its former Secretary General Ri Kyong Won and its former Chairperson in charge of information service Choe Un A shall be maintained.

All reunification movements which had been legally carried out in the past period are being branded as illegal, and legal acts are taken against them under the present regime, they noted, adding this is a vivid manifestation of confrontation policy.

They went on:

The military authorities are threatening people, terming pro-reunification movement organizations the "organizations following the north". This is little different from violating the freedom of thinking and political rights and cracking down on conscience.

Koreans in the south, the north and overseas formed Pomminryon and has actively worked to realize the desire of the nation, the speakers said, noting it is absurd to suppress members of the South Headquarters of Pomminryon who are working hard for peaceful reunification.

It is impossible to achieve reunification and democracy without the repeal of the "Security Law", they held, calling for all-out struggle for the abrogation of the SL.
