Seminar Marks Anniversary of October 4 Declaration
Pyongyang, October 9 (KCNA) -- There took place at the Koryo compatriots' hall in Pyongyang on Oct. 8 a seminar to mark the fifth anniversary of the historic October 4 Declaration.

Present there were Ri Chung Bok, vice-chairman of the North Side Committee for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration, and other members of the committee and officials concerned and Yun Kil Sang, chairman of the Federation of Koreans in the U.S., and compatriots from the U.S., Canada, Japan, China and Australia.

Korean resident in the U.S. Ro Kil Nam, who is representative of an Internet paper Minjok Thongsin, expressed the belief that the seminar would contribute to hastening the reunification of the country by implementing the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration.

Ri Chung Bok in a report noted that the publication of the October 4 declaration was a precious fruition of the noble patriotic intention and tireless efforts of General Secretary Kim Jong Il and it was another great event to be specially recorded in the history of the national reunification movement.

He declared the compatriots in the north, true to the noble intention of the dear respected Marshal Kim Jong Un, would join hands with bodies of people from all walks of life and figures supporting the inter-Korean declarations and wishing to achieve the independent reunification in the idea of "By our nation itself!"

The participants in the seminar heard speeches made on different subjects. Speakers said that the adoption of the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration was a great event which brought about an epochal turn in the effort for national reunification and the development of the north-south relations. They also referred to the obstacle to the implementation of the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration and tasks and ways for implementing those declarations.

They called upon all the Koreans in the north, the south and overseas to strive to reunify the country by pooling efforts, fully aware that they are the masters of their destinies.
