Present there were members of the Osaka Headquarters of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon), the Osaka Headquarters of the Federation of South Koreans in Japan for Democracy and Unification, the Japan's Regional Committee of the Overseas Side Committee for Implementing June 15 Joint Declaration and the Association of Koreans in Japan for Peaceful Reunification and other compatriots in Japan.

The speakers said at the meeting that they once again came to realize the significance of the June 15 joint declaration and its practical programme October 4 declaration provided by General Secretary Kim Jong Il.

The adoption of the north-south joint declarations was the nation's historic event that hardened the compatriots' faith and added to their optimism about the reunification and put the independent reunification movement on a higher stage, they noted, and went on:

However, the agreements between the north and the south have been undermined and the military tension has prevailed on the Korean Peninsula since the Lee Myung Bak regime seized the power in south Korea.

The conservative regime seeking to hinder the reunification should not be allowed to take power in south Korea.

Only when all the Koreans make efforts, can the desire for the national reunification come true. The Koreans in Japan should turn out as one in the efforts for achieving the country's reunification and especially the rising generation should take the lead in it.

A joint appeal of the June 15 All-Korean Committee to all the compatriots was read out.
