Rodong Sinmun Calls for Developing National Education, Culture and Arts
Pyongyang, October 5 (KCNA) -- It is one of the important requirements of the non-aligned and other developing nations for building an independent new society to rapidly develop national education, culture and arts, says Rodong Sinmun Friday in a bylined article.

Only when the people, masters of society, are trained as independent and creative beings by strengthening education and developing culture and arts, is it possible to rapidly develop society and achieve prosperity of the country and nation, the article says, and goes on:

In the past the imperialists and colonialists invaded many countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America to deprive them of their political sovereignty and perpetrate economic plunder.

Moreover, they enforced policies of stamping out national education, culture and arts and keeping people in ignorance.

Consequently, national culture and arts were trampled down and corrupt Western life style and culture prevailed in non-aligned and other developing countries.

Their people became illiterates and were left far behind in terms of social life.

They should, therefore, tap all their potentials, help each other and exchange their experience on the principle of complementing one another under the banner of collective self-reliance.

It is essential for collectively fending off the infiltration of the imperialists' reactionary ideology and culture to strengthen South-South cooperation in national education, culture and arts.

It is the consistent policy of the DPRK to boost the South-South cooperation.

The DPRK will make every possible effort to develop South-South cooperation in education, culture and arts on the principle of effecting collective self-reliance, complementing one another and ensuring equality and mutual benefit.
