5th Anniversary of October 4 Declaration Observed
Pyongyang, October 4 (KCNA) -- A meeting took place at the Central Hall of Workers in Pyongyang on Thursday, the 5th anniversary of the October 4 declaration.

Present there were Yang Hyong Sop, Kim Yang Gon, Kim Yong Dae, chairman of the Central Committee of the Korean Social Democratic Party, Ryu Mi Yong, chairwoman of the Central Committee of the Chondoist Chongu Party, Choe Jin Su, president of the North Headquarters of the Pan-national Alliance for Korea's Reunification, officials of social organizations, members of the North Side Committee for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration, the Pan-national Alliance for Korea's Reunification and the North Headquarters of the Pan-national Alliance of Youth and Students for Korea's Reunification, people and students in the city.

Yang Hyong Sop, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea and vice-president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly, made a report at the meeting.

He said the publication of the October 4 declaration made it possible to independently solve all issues in reunifying the country in line with the demand and interests of the nation in the idea of "By our nation itself".

By adopting the declaration, leader Kim Jong Il gave momentum to the enthusiasm for independent reunification growing at home and abroad, thus bringing about the unprecedented golden days for national reconciliation and unity, he said and went on:

After the publication of the declaration contacts and dialogues between the north and the south were activated in politics, economy, military and other fields including a premiers' meeting and their joint propelling mechanisms were established, giving great spurs to its implementation on a nation-wide scale.

Through a drive to implement the declaration, all the Koreans in the north, the south and abroad cherished an immutable truth that pooling efforts of Koreans guarantees the reunification, common prosperity and a rosy future of the nation.

Along with the June 15 joint declaration provided by Kim Jong Il as a great programme for independent reunification in the new century, the October 4 declaration has proved its validity and vitality despite the serious challenges lying on the road to reunification.

Intensifying in south Korea and abroad are popular actions for punishing the regime that has sought sycophancy towards foreign forces and confrontation with countrymen to dampen the Koreans' desire for reunification during its tenure of office, and for continuously advancing the June 15 era of reunification.

The exploits for reunification performed by Generalissimos Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il who opened up bright prospects for national prosperity have been reliably carried forward by the dear respected Marshal Kim Jong Un.

Kim Jong Un is firmly defending the Generalissimos' idea and line for reunification and their undying feats, and encouraging all Koreans to a struggle for reunifying the country.

The historic June 15 North-South Joint Declaration and the October 4 Declaration are a valuable heritage bequeathed by Kim Jong Il to his countrymen and a banner of reunification to be invariably held fast to by the nation.

It is because such anti-reunification forces as the Lee Myung Bak regime totally denied the joint declarations that dialogues, negotiations, contacts and exchanges between the north and the south were disrupted and even the humanitarian cooperation held back.

To implement the declarations is the only way for putting the north-south relations on the normal track, removing the danger of war and opening up a new era of independent reunification and common prosperity.

The DPRK will make persevering efforts to carry forward the June 15 era of reunification, the new era of independent reunification, peace and prosperity, upholding the June 15 joint declaration, a great programme for reunification in the new century, and the October 4 declaration for implementing it.
