The October 4 declaration serves as a principle for action and a programme for practice that comprehensively deals with the ways for developing the north-south relations and achieving peace, reunification and prosperity of the nation in the basic spirit of the June 15 joint declaration.

The adoption of the declaration was an event noteworthy in the nation's history as it gave confidence and optimism for reunification to all the Koreans and put their movement for independent reunification that had vigorously advanced toward a higher stage under the banner of the June 15 joint declaration.

If the October 4 declaration had been implemented smoothly, epochal events in the June 15 era of reunification would have taken place on this land, hastening the emergence of a peaceful and prosperous reunified country and giving more pleasures to the fellow countrymen.

However, the vicious moves of the Lee Myung Bak regime in south Korea to escalate confrontation with its countrymen dispirited the Koreans and dashed their hope.

Intolerable are the crimes committed by the anti-reunification forces in south Korea who barred the advance of the June 15 era and delayed the reunification. They are sure to face severe punishment by the nation.

What all the Koreans at home and abroad want today is the peace and independent reunification of the country and the common prosperity of the nation, not the confrontation and war between fellow countrymen.

Pomminryon will intensify the activities for implementing the north-south declarations and strengthen the tripartite solidarity to reject all kinds of acts that deny the declarations and interrupt their implementation.
