Joint Scientific Conference in Pyongyang
Pyongyang, September 24 (KCNA) -- A joint scientific conference of the Eurasia-Pacific Uninet and Kim Il Sung University is going on here with a view to contributing to the improvement of people's wellbeing.

The theme of the conference is "Biomedical and biotechnological progress for a healthy society", and it is held divided into life sciences and veterinary medicine sections.

At the conference on Monday, Wolf-Dieter Rausch from University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna, Austria, made a speech titled "Nerve cell culture as a tool to understand neurodegenerative processes."

The first nerve culture is of high technology in studying the functions of nerve, he said, stressing that he would develop the pharmacological strategy to find out nerve-protecting medicine for the treatment of aging diseases and acquire know-how needed for replacing nerve tissue and recovering damaged parts in case of spinal disease.

Dr. Buyantogtokh Choijilsuren of National University of Mongolia, in her speech titled "Implications of disaster and environmental pollution to livestock mortality", said that the research on this theme is aimed to deal with the number of increasing domestic animals in the last decade and the history of factors affecting their death rate.

Besides, there were speeches on such subjects as "Isolation and characterization of glycolipoprotein from biomaterials" and "Immunogenicity of Rubella vaccine".

The conference goes on.
