S. Korean Lawmaker Lays Bare Purpose of Naval Base Construction
Pyongyang, September 21 (KCNA) -- A lawmaker from the Democratic United Party of south Korea released information on Sept. 10 that a naval base on Jeju Island is aimed to ensure the portcall of nuclear aircraft carriers of the U.S. imperialist aggressor forces.

He said:

A "report of investigating and testing the construction of naval base on Jeju island" worked out by the navy in April 2010 says that "it carried out its main task to examine the security and feasibility of the original plan from the viewpoint of operating 150,000-ton-passenger ship and nuclear aircraft carrier according to the plan of base construction".

Another document worked out earlier said that facilities were designed in such a way as to ensure safe entry and departure of nuclear aircraft carriers.

The fact that the turning diameter of the naval base on Jeju Island is just the same as the turning diameter of an aircraft carrier suggests that the base is aimed not just to ensure the simple portcall of an aircraft carrier but ensure the permanent entry and departure of those carriers.

The U.S. is now in the process of reorganizing armed forces with main emphasis on the navy and more than 60 percent of them are concentrated on Asia. It is contrary to common sense that this construction has nothing in common with the construction of the naval base on Jeju Island.

The naval authorities should get verification of the propriety of the base construction.

On Sept. 7, he held at a session of the "National Assembly" that the Jeju naval base was designed to handle the nuclear aircraft carrier which the south Korean forces do not possess.
