13th Pyongyang International Film Festival Opens
Pyongyang, September 20 (KCNA) -- The 13th Pyongyang International Film Festival (PIFF) opened with due ceremony.

The festival will be held divided into long feature films, documentaries, short films, special and information screenings.

More than 90 films presented by at least 50 units of 30 odd countries will be shown in the festival.

The opening ceremony took place at the East Pyongyang Grand Theatre on Thursday.

Present at the opening ceremony were Yang Hyong Sop, vice-president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly, Vice Premier Kim Yong Jin, Minister of Culture Hong Kwang Sun, chairman of the organizing committee of the festival, Cha Hui Rim, chairman of the Pyongyang City People's Committee, and others, foreign delegations and delegates and international judges.

The invitees were diplomatic envoys and staff members of foreign embassies and members of missions of international organizations here.

A video was shown to introduce the films presented to the festival.

Hong Kwang Sun in an inaugural speech expressed belief that the PIFF that has constantly developed in the idea of independence, peace and friendship would be held successfully amid the positive and sincere support and assistance of the participants.

Daniel Otto, delegate of Germany, said in a congratulatory speech the festival has been opened successfully thanks to the deep attention of the dear respected Kim Jong Un, the Workers' Party of Korea and the government of the DPRK.

The international judges were introduced there.

The organizing committee of the festival gave a reception for the participants at Okryu Restaurant that day.
