Typhoon-16 Affects Some Parts of DPRK
Pyongyang, September 18 (KCNA) -- Typhoon-16, which was formed in waters east of the Philippines on Sep. 11, moved northward, bringing heavy rains, strong wind and tidal waves to most east coastal areas of Korea and some parts of Ryanggang, North Phyongan and North and South Hwanghae provinces in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

From 18:00 Sunday to 03:00 Tuesday, it rained 160 mm in Kosong County and 120 mm in Thongchon County, Kangwon Province, 129 mm in Kyonghung County and 127 mm in Hoeryong City, North Hamgyong Province, 108 mm in Hochon County and 107 mm in Riwon County, South Hamgyong Province and 93 mm in Paekam Workers' District, Ryanggang Province.

Riwon, Hwadae, Myonggan and Kyonghung counties and Hoeryong and Chongjin cities were hit by rainstorm.

The typhoon whipped up wind of 20 meters per second in Kosong County, 17 meters per second in Changdo County and 15 meters per second in Kumgang County, Kangwon Province, bringing wind of over 10 meters per second to most parts of Kangwon and North and South Hamgyong provinces and some west coastal areas.

Tidal waves as high as 103 centimeters were observed in the sea off Pochon area of Myongchon County and 59 centimeters in the sea off Kimchaek City, North Hamgyong Province and 97 centimeters in the sea off Thongchon County, Kangwon Province.

The typhoon passed through the north coastal area of North Hamgyong Province on Tuesday morning.
