One-Million Signature Campaign Launched in S. Korea
Pyongyang, September 16 (KCNA) -- One-million signature campaign against the unpopular education policy enforced by the puppet authorities was launched across south Korea on Sept. 5.

More than 230 organizations of people of all social standings are conducting a signature campaign in demand of the abolition of the registration fee at universities and free education at primary, secondary and high schools, a halt to discrimination against part-timers in the field of education and institution of a special law for aiding schools in rural areas and fishing villages, etc.

In this connection, the Pusan branch of the Teachers Union held a press conference at the plaza of Pusan City Office on Sept.12.

The organization charged that polarization has become more serious in education since Lee Myung Bak came to power.

There should not be special schools for minority but a new environment should be created to provide an equal opportunity of education to all students, the organization held.

It called for taking a measure at an early date to save education now going to ruin as the days go by, declaring that the members of the union would take an active part in the one-million signature campaign to eliminate the neo-liberal educational system and improve education conditions.

The signature campaign is accompanied by various actions including meetings in different parts of south Korea.
