Typhoon-16 to Affect DPRK
Pyongyang, September 15 (KCNA) -- Typhoon-16 is moving north-northwest of the South Sea of Korea at a speed of 22 kilometers per hour.

At 06:00 Saturday the typhoon reached the sea southeast of Okinawa, Japan, at 21.8 degrees north latitude and 129.3 degrees east longitude.

With 905 hpa in the center, it has a maximum wind speed of 53 meters per second. It has a radius of 240 kilometers with a wind speed of over 25 meters per second and a radius of 600 kilometers with a wind speed of over 15 meters per second.

The typhoon is likely to reach Ryosu area in South Jolla Province and pass through South Kangwon Province before moving towards the Maritime Territory of Russia through the sea off Chongjin City at around 09:00 of September 18.

The typhoon is believed to trigger rainfalls in North and South Hwanghae, South Hamgyong and Kangwon provinces on Sunday evening and in almost areas of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea on September 17-18, causing wind of over 10 meters per second in the east and west coastal areas for a while and wind of over 15 meters per second in some of them on September 17.

The precipitation will be 50 to 100 mm on the east coast and areas of South Hwanghae Province, above 150 mm in some of the areas, 40 to 70 mm in Pyongyang City, South Phyongan, North Hwanghae and Ryanggang provinces and 10 to 30 mm in North Phyongan and Jagang provinces.

It is forecast that the typhoon, on September 17-18, will cause the northeast wind of 15 to 20 meters per second in the East Sea of Korea, with 25 meters per second to the mazimum, generating 4 to 6-meter-high waves and 80 to 120-centimeter-high tidal waves.
