Kim Il Sung's Feats in Building Unified, Sovereign State
Pyongyang, September 10 (KCNA) -- On the occasion of the 64th anniversary of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (September 9), its people pay the highest tribute to President Kim Il Sung, who performed undying feats in building an independent and sovereign state in Korea after its liberation from Japan's colonial rule.

Soon after Korea's liberation, the United States occupied south Korea by force and enforced colonial enslavement policy in it. The policy led to laying hurdles to building a unified, sovereign state in the whole of Korea.

Under such grave situation, the President advanced the line of establishing a unified state through nationwide general elections.

Prompted by his noble patriotic will, representatives of political parties and social organizations in the north and the south of Korea launched a campaign to establish a unified and sovereign state in reaction to the moves for separate elections and separate government under way in south Korea.

However, the U.S. imperialists and the Syngman Rhee puppet clique of south Korea carried out the "May 10 separate elections" in disregard of the entire nation's desire.

In June Juche 37 (1948), the President convened a conference of leaders of political parties and social organizations in the north and the south of Korea and delivered a report "On the Political Situation in Our Country after the Separate Elections in South Korea and Measures to Win National Reunification".

He, in the report, underlined the need to set up without delay an all-Korea supreme legislative body representing the Korean people's will, adopt the DPRK constitution and found an all-Korea government comprised of representatives of north and south Korean political parties and social organizations.

At the 5th Session of the People's Assembly of North Korea, he expounded characters and features of the DPRK constitution.

On Sep. 9 that year, he founded the DPRK, a representation of all Koreans' will and desire.

The founding dealt a heavy blow to the separatists and gave impetus to the movement for national reunification.
