8th Pyongyang Int'l Science and Technology Book Fair Opens
Pyongyang, September 10 (KCNA) -- The 8th Pyongyang International Science and Technology Book Fair was opened with due ceremony at the Grand People's Study House on Monday.

On display at the fair hall were latest scientific and technological books and data presented by more than 50 organizations of at least 20 countries including the DPRK, China, New Zealand, Russia, Germany, Mongolia, the U.S., Brazil, Singapore, Australia, Japan and France and regions, organizations of overseas Koreans, international organizations, individuals, embassies of different countries and missions of international organizations here.

Present at the opening ceremony were Choe Thae Bok, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, officials concerned, teachers and researchers.

Also present there were delegations and delegates of various countries and international organizations and overseas Koreans, diplomatic envoys of different countries and staff members of foreign embassies here.

The participants paid tribute to the marble statue of President Kim Il Sung at the house.

Kim Jong Suk, chairwoman of the Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries who doubles as chairwoman of the organizing committee of the fair, made an opening address.

She said that the fair opened under the care of the government of the DPRK would help develop the friendly and cooperative relations among peoples of different countries and contribute to achieving mankind's progress and prosperity.

Yan Xiaohong, vice director-general of the General Administration of Press and Publication of China who is heading the delegation of Chinese publishers, in a congratulatory speech said that the Pyongyang International Science and Technology Book Fair is contributing to promoting the scientific and technological development and boosting cooperation among countries.

At the end of the opening ceremony the participants looked round the books and data on display.
