Measures against Sexual Abuses Urged in S. Korea
Pyongyang, September 7 (KCNA) -- Women organizations in south Korea held a press conference outside the building of the Kwangju City Office on September 4 urging the authorities to take measures against sexual assaults against women. Those organizations included the federation of women's organizations in Kwangju of South Jolla Province, the Kwangju council of women's organizations, the Kwangju council of civic organizations and the Kwangju society of human rights.

At the conference the speakers deplored that sexual abuses against juveniles and women are on the steady increase.

Recalling that sexual abuses against even pregnant women broke out in the wake of sexual assaults and murder of a girl of a primary school, a woman on Jeju Island and a housewife, they declared that these cases are attributable to the irresponsibility on the part of the "government."

It should not just take a stopgap measure against the occurrence of each case but take positive steps against such crimes, they urged.

In the meantime, a women's organization in Kwangju region declared it would stage a candlelight rally every Tuesday from that day in demand of measures against sexual abuses against women.
