New Species of Dwarf Fruit Trees Developed by Farmer in DPRK
Pyongyang, September 6 (KCNA) -- Yun Won Jong, 68, a peasant of the Oryu Vegetable Co-op Farm in Sadong District, Pyongyang, has succeeded in cultivating high-yield species of dwarf fruit trees.

The new species include apricot, peach and plum trees, which can yield fruits 3.5 to 5 times higher than others.

Ra Jong Sam, management board chairman of the farm, told KCNA:

"Yun Won Jong has devoted himself to cultivating the new species for scores of years, out of mind to do a good job for the country.

During the years, he has used his family garden as a nursery with rooms of his house always packed with potted saplings.

Even when he was hospitalized, he took care of potted saplings."

Yun was awarded three certificates of inventions.

The new species are easy to cultivate and high in economic value.

Yun said:

"People suggest that I write a doctorate thesis.

Of course, honor is precious for me but to make a contribution to developing the country with honest mind is more precious.

I think the country will remember me when the new species produce a high yield of fruits in orchards across it."
