S. Korean Prosecution Accused of Its Politically-motivated Suppression of Opposition Party
Pyongyang, September 5 (KCNA) -- The members of the opposition Unified Progressive Party of south Korea held a press conference in the "National Assembly" building on Aug. 29 in protest against the prosecution's political suppression.

The prosecution recently opened to public the private information of the party members of the Unified Progressive Party under the pretext of "investigation" and intensified suppression by issuing summons at random, they said, and went on:

The suppression of the opposition party members and human rights abuses remind one of the reckless acts of the past dictatorial regime.

The prosecution, which had served as a waiting maid of the Lee Myung Bak regime, is openly stepping up the suppression of the opposition party at the end of the Lee's office aimed at the "Saenuri Party's" stay in power.

The search of the building of the opposition party and confiscation of the membership list happened under the present regime, they said, adding this was attributable to its intention to root out the progressive party and curb solidarity with the opposition parties so as to deter the change of the regime at the "presidential" election.

They said they would deal with the prosecution's unreasonable suppression by concerted efforts.

They demanded the prosecution stop the suppression of the opposition party and the chief prosecutor step down.
