Rodong Sinmun Slams U.S. Plan to Expand MD in Asia-Pacific
Pyongyang, September 3 (KCNA) -- Recently the chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff opened to the public a plan to deploy another new radar system in the southern part of Japan as part of the U.S. scenario for establishing the missile defense system in the Asia-Pacific region.

The U.S. is also mulling establishing a highly effective early warning radar system in Southeast Asia. Its intention is to link these two radar systems with U.S. ground missile bases and marine anti-ballistic missile network.

Rodong Sinmun on Monday observes in a bylined commentary in this regard:

This indicates that the U.S. seeks to round off its siege to powers in the Asia-Pacific which it has already pushed forward in an effort to attain a strategic edge and expand and strengthen its military domination over them.

Lurking behind the U.S. claim that the mission of the MD in the Asia-Pacific region is to cope with the "threat of north Korean missiles" is its ulterior intention to calm down the discontent and opposition of big powers in this region as much as possible and expand its MD with ease, the commentary notes, and goes on:

The U.S. moves to expand the MD in this region are nothing but reckless acts which may spur the arms race in the region.

No country in the region will sit idle, just watching the U.S. hegemonic moves to disable its offensive capability.

The DPRK, a major gateway to the Asia-Pacific region, will never remain a passive onlooker to the U.S. hostile and provocative plan to expand the MD.

It will redouble its efforts to disable the U.S. MD, a threat to peace. The U.S. could swagger in the past Cold War as a "winner", but it will have to drink a bitter cup of defeat in the new Cold War.
