Korean Youth Effect Innovations in Difficult and Labor-consuming Economic Sectors
Pyongyang, August 22 (KCNA) -- At least 209 500 young Koreans volunteered to work in difficult and labor-consuming fields of the national economy to make a breakthrough over the last decade.

Many young people volunteered to work on socialist cooperative farms true to the intention of the Workers' Party of Korea to settle food shortage. More than 100 young people of South Phyongan Province proceeded to the Jisa Co-op Farm, Nampho City in 2006. The number of those youngsters has increased year by year since then.

After graduating from Pyongyang Agricultural College of Kim Il Sung University, Jong Su Rim volunteered to work on the Rihyon Vegetable Farm in Sadong District. Kim Chong Sun and Ri Po Dap and his 15 other brothers and sisters proceeded to the Chongsan Cooperative Farm, Kangso District, after graduating from Pyongyang Jangwon Secondary School and Pyongyang Kangan Secondary School. Many other young people also volunteered to work on farms last year, too.

Young people volunteered to work in major worksites for socialist construction including pilot sectors of the national economy in hearty response to the call of the party.

Discharged young soldiers volunteered to work in major sectors of the national economy including furnaces of the Hwanghae Iron and Steel Complex and Kim Chaek Iron and Steel Complex, coal mines and ore mines. They are playing a pioneer's role in the revolutionary soldier spirit.

More than 50 graduates from Kim Chol Ju University of Education proceeded to the construction site of the Paektusan Songun Youth Power Station and dozens of those from Kim Jong Suk University of Education and Sariwon University of Education No. 2 to the project for rebuilding and repairing the northern railways.

Jo Jang Hyang's eight brothers and sisters of Pyongyang Munsin Secondary School and graduates from Pyongyang Jangchung Secondary School, Pyongyang Puksu Secondary School, Wonsan Orphans' Secondary School and other secondary schools proceeded to worksites for effecting a great surge including the Ryongyang Mine, Komdok Mining Complex, etc.

Young people across the country are playing their roles as vanguard and shock brigade in building an economic power. Kim Hyok Youth Shock Brigade and Cha Kwang Su Youth Shock Brigade are taking the lead in the drive for socialist construction including the Hwanghae Iron and Steel Complex, Unryul Mine, Sochang Youth Coal Mine, Namdok Coal Mine and Ripsok Coal Mine.

Members of the Paektusan Songun Youth Shock Brigade have displayed matchless devotion despite difficulties, bringing earlier the day of completion of the power station. Innovations are being effected every day by members of the youth shock brigade through their high-pitched drive in the project for rebuilding and repairing the northern railways.

Young people of power basses in Huichon, Pyongyang and Pukchang, coals mines in Sunchon and Anju areas and Songgang and Hwanghae iron and steel production bases and in the field of railway transport are effecting a great surge in production.

In the rural areas the number of youth sub-workteams and workteams increased to thousands. Among them more than 200 units won twice model youth sub-workteam (workteam) title and at least 120 thrice model youth sub-workteam (workteam) title.

Young people are playing a big role in settling scientific and technological issues arising in building a thriving nation true to the party's idea of attaching importance to science and technology.

Youth march for science and technology and the national youth exhibition of scientific and technological achievements, etc. are brisk in the country. This year, too, young scientists, technicians and inventors presented thousands of valuable computer programs and technological innovation proposals conducive to technological updating of different sectors of the national economy and modernization of production processes, holding high the banner of the industrial revolution in the new century.
