Mass Killing of Koreans after Kanto Quake
Pyongyang, August 20 (KCNA) -- The quake which jolted Kanto area, Japan in September 1923, served as an opportunity for the Japanese government to massively kill Koreans in Japan.

The devastating quake havocked the whole of the Kanto area, leaving a large number of people homeless.

Instead of taking emergency relief measures, the Japanese government hatched a terrible plot to massacre Koreans in a bid to calm down growing public anger at the government.

Accordingly, the Japanese reactionaries spread false rumors that Koreans had set fire and put poison into wells and sent instructions to each local magistrate to crack down on the Koreans.

In response to the instructions, Japanese hooligans indiscriminately killed Koreans by use of various sorts of lethal weapons.

They shot, stabbed and burnt to death innocent Koreans. They even cut throats of Korean children in front of their parents.

They stopped passers-by and made them pronounce Japanese words and in case their pronunciation was not fluent they were killed on the scene, believed to be Koreans.

The death toll of Koreans in the massacre amounted to 23 000.

The barbarity is recorded in history as a heinous crime.

Japan should make an apology for its crimes committed against the Korean nation in the past without delay.

It is a legal and moral obligation for Japan.
