Kim Jong Il's Feats for National Unity
Pyongyang, August 11 (KCNA) -- On August 12, Juche 89 (2000), leader Kim Jong Il had a talk with delegates of media organs in the north and the south of Korea in Pyongyang, at which he elaborated on the mission and duties they should take in implementing the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration.

He called on them to actively carry on media activities helpful to implementing the joint declaration and meeting the desire of the people, free from obsolete practices of fanning confrontation and distrust among the fellow countrymen.

He stated that he was willing to join hands with anybody who would support the joint declaration and opt for achieving national reunification, irrespective of their party affiliation and regardless of their past wrongdoings.

At that time, a south Korean delegate questioned him when the day of reunification would come. His question was prompted by his judgment that the issue of national reunification could be settled only by Kim Jong Il.

Kim Jong Il gave an impromptu answer to the question, saying the day of reunification will be dependent on the determination of the north and the south of Korea and it can be brought earlier when both the north and the south make concerted efforts for it. His remarks aroused admiration of the south Korean delegates.

Another south Korean delegate said that the DPRK reached a high level in making animated films and computer software and, therefore, it is likely that the DPRK would make great profits if it operates joint ventures with foreign countries.

Seeing the delegates, the leader said that both the north and the south can share interests common to the nation if they make joint venture in those fields.

The south Korean delegates were deeply moved by his noble idea that puts the nation's interests above anything else.
