Mallow, Health Vegetable
Pyongyang, August 9 (KCNA) -- Mallow is one of vegetables Koreans like to take in summer days.

Prof. and Dr. Kim Jong Gil at the Academy of Koryo Medicine told KCNA:

"Korea has a long history of cultivating mallow, spread in northern temperate and subtropical zones.

Mallow has been considered one of nutritious vegetables stimulating appetite at the change of season. It is abundant in protein, sugariness, cellulose, calcium, phosphorus, kalium and vitamins. It is two times and three times higher than spinach in content of protein and fatness respectively.

Koreans have also used mallow as medicinal material.

Mallow helps make smooth excretion. In particular, it is efficacious for urinary disease and sunstroke in summer days.

Its stalks and leaves are taken with bean paste or as cooked gruel and soup mixed with peppered bean paste and powdered shrimp."
