Events Held in Philippines to Support Korea's Reunification
Pyongyang, August 5 (KCNA) -- Solidarity events supporting the independent and peaceful reunification of Korea are brisk in different parts of Philippines.

An inaugural meeting of the action supporting the independent and peaceful reunification of Korea took place at Southeastern University in Davao City, Philippines on July 17, according to the action program of the Asia-Pacific Regional Committee for Supporting Peaceful Reunification of Korea. It was sponsored by the Philippines Solidarity Committee for Peace and Reunification in the Korean Peninsula.

Present at the meeting were Norma Binas, vice-president of the Philippines solidarity committee and co-secretary general of the Asia-Pacific regional committee, personages of local governments and various trade unions, media persons, teachers and students of the university and other people.

The meeting heard an action program of the Asia-Pacific regional committee and a declaration on solidarity with the independent and peaceful reunification of Korea.

The declaration said all the people of Philippines fully support the Korean people in their struggle to achieve the independent and peaceful reunification of the country.

The U.S. occupation of south Korea after the liberation of Korea from Japan's colonial rule brought about the division of Korea, the declaration said, and went on:

Korea's reunification is not only an internal issue of Korea but the urgent task of the times for achieving world peace.

We fully support the just demand of the Korean people for the immediate withdrawal of the U.S. troops and nukes from south Korea.

The declaration demanded the U.S., Japan and south Korea halt their moves to knock into shape a triangular military alliance and urged the U.S. and south Korea to stop their anti-DPRK joint military exercises for blocking the independent and peaceful reunification of Korea.

The participants in the meeting signed the declaration.
