Typhoon Causes Human, Material Losses in DPRK
Pyongyang, July 20 (KCNA) -- The downpour, triggered by the typhoon-7, seriously hit Kangwon and South Hwanghae provinces of the DPRK, causing big human and material losses.

In Kangwon Province, the flood left seven people dead, many hectares of farmland inundated and some of dwelling houses, public buildings, railways, roads, bridges, breakwaters, electric supply and communication networks destroyed. Water supply system was paralyzed in Wonsan and Munchon cities, suspending the provision of drinking water to citizens.

In South Hwanghae Province, several houses were totally or partially destroyed in Haeju City and Jaeryong County and many areas of cropland submerged in Unchon County.

Meanwhile, the typhoon brought heavy rainstorm and tidal wave to the east coastal areas of the country on July 19.

Over 200 mm rainfalls were registered in Kim Chaek City, North Hamgyong Province, Munchon City and Chonnae County, Kangwon Province, and Sudong District, South Hamgyong Province. Kim Chaek City witnessed 66 mm of rainfalls from 15:00 to 18:00 and 64 mm from 21:00 to 24:00, Chonnae County 54 mm from 10:00 to 11:00 and 72 mm from 12:00 to 15:00 and Sudong District 52 mm from 09:20 to 11:50 and 69 mm from 12:00 to 15:00.

That day, a wind measuring over 10 to 18 meters per second swept Wonsan City and Kosong County, Kangwon Province, and Hamhung, Sinpho and Tanchon cities and Riwon County, South Hamgyong Province.
