Rodong Sinmun Marks Anniversary of DPRK-Russia Joint Declaration
Pyongyang, July 19 (KCNA) -- Today marks the 12th anniversary of the DPRK-Russia joint declaration. In July 2000 Russian President V.V. Putin visited the DPRK at the invitation of leader Kim Jong Il for the first time as the head of state of Russia and adopted the joint declaration.

Rodong Sinmun Thursday in a bylined article says the joint declaration serves as a milestone for DPRK-Russia friendship in the new century and an engine propelling the sound development of international relations and ensuring global peace.

It goes on:

Since its adoption the joint declaration has promoted the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries, displaying its vitality.

In recent years, the bilateral relations have become close in different domains based on joint declarations.

The development of the relations fully conforms with the interests of the peoples of the two countries, friendly neighbors, and is beneficial to ensuring peace and security of Asia and the rest of the world.

The Russian people are striving hard to achieve social stability and national unity and protect the country's security and interests. Russia is opposed to hegemony and high-handed policy in international arena and stands for multipolarization of the world and establishment of new, fair international order. It firmly stands against the U.S. missile defense system for world domination. These efforts of Russia precisely mean contribution to averting new arms race and space weaponization and defending global peace and security.

It is common desire of the two peoples to steadily develop traditional DPRK-Russia friendship.

The Korean people will as ever make efforts to develop the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries in the spirit of the joint declaration.
