Pyongyang, July 14 (KCNA) -- A lecture was sponsored by the Indian Intellectuals' Society for the Study of the Juche Idea on July 3 on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the historic July 4 joint statement.

V. K. Chopra, chairman of the society, said:

President Kim Il Sung received representatives of the south side who came to Pyongyang to attend the inter-Korean high-level political talks in May 1972 and laid down the Three Principles of National Reunification -- independence, peaceful reunification and great national unity.

The principle of independence is the basic stand to be consistently maintained in the whole course of accomplishing the cause of Korea's reunification, peaceful reunification is a way of achieving Korea's reunification reflecting the will and interests common to the whole Korean nation and great national unity is a basic prerequisite for Korea's reunification.

July 4, 1972 saw the publication of the joint statement based on the principles.

Leader Kim Jong Il saw to it that the three principles were fully embodied in the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration and the October 4 declaration.

The Korean people will achieve national reunification without fail under the wise leadership of the dear respected Kim Jong Un on the three principles.
