Resignation of Chairman of S. Korean Human Rights Committee Urged
Pyongyang, July 13 (KCNA) -- 396 south Korean lawyers and legal scholars held a press conference outside the building of the Human Rights Committee of south Korea on Tuesday.

They read out a joint declaration demanding the human rights abuser Hyon Pyong Chol, chairman of the Human Rights Committee of south Korea, resign his office.

Chairman Hyon Pyong Chol had no career related to human rights, the statement disclosed.

The committee chaired by Hyon refused to give an emergent relief to Kim Jin Suk, who staged a protracted sit-in in protest against the lay-off by the Hanjin Heavy Industry, and even remained indifferent to the life of the people whose right to existence got worst, the statement deplored.

The statement demanded Lee Myung Bak immediately backtrack the decision on Hyon's stay in office, urging Hyon to bear responsibilities for the situation.
