S. Korean Organizations Demand Halt to Naval Base Construction on Jeju Island
Pyongyang, July 13 (KCNA) -- The south Korean Measure Council for Checking the Construction of Jeju Naval Base held a press conference outside the "government" office on July 9 in protest against the construction of a naval base on Jeju Island under a hypocritical pretext.

At the conference, the speakers recalled that on June 29 the "government" authorities proclaimed a proposal for revising the ordinance for enforcing the "law on protecting military base and military facilities".

According to the proposal, the military would put the entry and departure of civilian ships under its control and the naval base on Jeju Island would become an area for protecting military facilities regardless of the designation of the island as a trading port, they noted, adding:

This fully confirmed the naval base on the island to be a military port.

The designation of the military base on Jeju Island as an area for protecting military facilities would limit free access of civilians to it.

The Lee Myung Bak regime's assertion that the port would be used by civilians and military is no more than a lie and deception.

The present regime and military should stop at once the base construction, a source of trouble on the Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia.
