Solar Water Heater Widely Used in DPRK
Pyongyang, July 10 (KCNA) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea has taken various steps to satisfy the growing demand for energy.

Efforts are being made to use such renewable energies as solar heat, wind energy and geotherm while hydro-power stations are built across the country.

For instance, solar water heaters were installed at houses in newly-built Changjon Street, Pyongyang. This device is not subject to seasons.

It has already been used in dwelling houses in Nam-ri, Mangyongdae District, and silicate brick apartment buildings in Taesong District, Pyongyang. It is also popular at various units and dwelling houses in local areas including Nampho City and South Phyongan Province.

The device is produced at the Solar Equipment Development Center.

Kim Yong Il, director of the Center, told KCNA:

"The prospect of developing solar energy is very bright in the country.

The Center has got a lot of experience and rich technical knowledge of this field. It will turn out many solar devices helpful to the improvement of the people's living and protection of environment."
