Brisk Development in Rason Economic, Trade Zone
Pyongyang, July 2 (KCNA) -- The development of the Rason Economic and Trade Zone is making rapid progress in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

The zone is a center of worldwide trade and investment as it links Northeast Asia with Europe and North America.

The DPRK's Law on the Rason Economic and Trade Zone was amended and supplemented in December Juche 100 (2011).

In June of that year, a ground-breaking ceremony for the reconstruction of the Rason Port-Wonjong road took place as one of the projects to be jointly developed and operated by the DPRK and China, with the pavement of the road extending more than 50 km in total length started. The reconstruction is expected to be completed within this year.

Meanwhile, a project for renovating the railway section between Rajin and Khasan is under way to link the Korean Peninsula with Siberia of Russia.

From October 2008, a work has been conducted to rebuild the 54 km-long railway section between Rajin and River Tuman into a mixed track.

The improvement of wharf No. 3 at Rajin Port is making headway as scheduled while historical sites and scenic spots have been face-lifted to encourage tourism in the zone.

The loop tour along the Rason-Hunchun-Khasan line is gaining momentum under an agreement reached by the DPRK, China and Russia.

And the tour of the zone by private cars is enjoying popularity.

Steadily increasing is the number of joint ventures and foreign private businesses involved in light industry, agriculture and other fields, with infrastructure projects stepped up in the zone,

In August this year, there will be the 2nd Rason International Trade Fair with attendance of local and foreign businesses.
