S. Korean Papers Accuse "Government" of Opting to Conclude Military Agreement with Japan
Pyongyang, June 30 (KCNA) -- South Korean papers carried editorials on June 28 denouncing the "government" for attempting to conclude a military agreement with Japan.

Kyunghyang Daily News in an editorial said that the "government" secretly railroaded the GSOMIA through its "Cabinet meeting" on June 26 as an initial phase for concluding a military agreement with Japan.

The editorial accuses the "government" authorities of concealing the true aim of the agreement under the pretext of "security threat growing owing to the north's missile launch and nuclear development," etc.

Lurking behind the conclusion of the military agreement with Japan is a new military strategy of the U.S. and the U.S. administration, pursuant to this strategy, is pressurizing south Korea to strengthen military cooperation with Japan, it noted.

It urged the authorities to stop the moves to conclude the agreement with Japan and lend an ear to the public opinion.

Hankuk Ilbo in an editorial said that no one can vouch that Japan's attitude raising a claim to Tok Islets and denying its past crimes would not threaten the security of south Korea.

Given the facts that Japan took legal steps for nuclear weaponization recently and is making desperate efforts to steadily bolster its military potential, the conclusion of the military agreement would encourage Japan in its militarist ambition, the editorial stressed.
