Rodong Sinmun Saturday says this in a bylined article. It goes on:

The June 15 Joint Declaration and the October 4 Declaration are an independent reunification programme in the new era as they indicate the most correct principle and ways for Korea's reunification.

The June 15 joint declaration was provided in reflection of the basic nature and realistic requirement of the issue of Korea's reunification and the unanimous desire of the Korean nation.

Amid the vigorous trend of the June 15 era of reunification, the October 4 declaration was adopted as an action program for independent reunification, peace and prosperity, and this put the inter-Korean relations on a higher stage of development.

The Korean nation's effort to defend and implement the declarations should always be the struggle to foil the actions of the anti-reunification forces against the trend of the times.

If the "Saenuri Party" of south Korea stays in power, it will mean just the revival of the Lee Myung Bak conservative regime opposed to those declarations.

If the party which is opposed to the declarations is allowed to seize power again, it would again become impossible to implement those declarations and realize the long-cherished desire of the Korean nation for peace and independent reunification.

The Korean nation is firmly convinced that if all compatriots at home and abroad get united to defend and implement the declarations despite the desperate moves of the anti-reunification forces, the new phase of national reunification is sure to be opened.
