DPRK Takes Anti-flood Measures
Pyongyang, June 28 (KCNA) -- July and August are usually the rainy season in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

According to the Hydro-meteorological Service, it is expected to have much rain accompanied by downpour in the country from early July.

In this regard, measures are being taken in all economic sectors to prevent flood damage.

Coal mines and power plants are finding out and remedying dangerous spots in coal yards and conveying systems, while clearing out ditches and keeping draining pumps and electric motors ready to operate.

In the railway sector including the Hamhung, Chongjin and Kaechon railway bureaus, efforts are concentrated on reinforcing railway lines and structures and building retaining walls in grade sections.

In the fields of construction and light industry, too, necessary steps are taken to prevent any possible damage from rainy wind and damp.

In the field of agriculture, tens of reservoir dams have been reinforced and irrigation canals readjusted and improved.

Meanwhile, urban administration units in provinces, cities and counties are directing efforts to dredging river-beds, improving embankments and readjusting floodgates and dams.

They are also taking steps to prevent sources of water supply from being submerged.
