Hailstorm, Downpour Hit Some Areas of DPRK
Pyongyang, June 22 (KCNA) -- Hailstorm and heavy rain have been witnessed in some areas of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea while most areas are still suffering from a long spell of drought.

Hailstorm hit Pudok-ri and Chongchon-ri in Jaeryong County, South Hwanghae Province from 16:50 to 17:35 on June 12 and Sinjang-ri in Yonsa County, North Hamgyong Province from 14:55 to 15:30 on June 20.

Hails in Pudok-ri and Chongchon-ri were as big as 25mm in diameter on an average, 30-40mm to the maximum, and it hailed 12 cm and 6 cm in the areas respectively.

Hailstones as big as 5mm in diameter on an average hit Sinjang-ri for five minutes and the precipitation in the area was registered about 50mm for 30 minutes.

The hailstorm left some people wounded and dwelling houses destroyed. Maize, wheat and other crops of 200 hectares were damaged in Pudok-ri, dozens of hectares in Chongchon-ri and 150 hectares in Sinjang-ri.

Meanwhile, thunderstorm dumped up to 62 mm of rain in Sinhung County, South Hamgyong Province on June 11, 65mm in Yonggwang County of the same province on June 12 and 50mm in Chonma County and 52mm in Changsong County, North Phyongan Province, on June 15.
