100th Performance of Opera "Evgeni Onegin" Staged
Pyongyang, June 22 (KCNA) -- The 100th performance of opera "Evgeni Onegin" was staged at the music hall of Pyongyang Kim Won Gyun Conservatory on Friday.

Enjoying the performance were Kim Ki Nam, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, officials concerned, officials in the fields of literature and arts and media.

Teachers and students of the Conservatory successfully recreated the Russian opera "Evgeni Onegin" which was watched by President Kim Il Sung in 1958.

Leader Kim Jong Il guided the recreation of the opera in June 2009.

Based on Pushkin's novel and composed by Tchaikovsky the opera exposes the corrupt life of the nobility and the unreasonable feudal society of Russia that reduce young people to good-for-nothing though they are obliged to do good things beneficial for the country.

The performance was highly acclaimed by the audience for its truthful representation of the original work.
