North Hwanghae Province of DPRK Severely Affected by Drought
Pyongyang, June 15 (KCNA) -- Most areas of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, North Hwanghae Province in particular, have experienced a long spell of drought.

Crops are withering due to the drought most serious in 60 years.

According to data available, the drought has ravaged 15 percent of the province's maize fields, leaving more than 2 000 hectares of fields sterile.

Hit hardest by the lingering drought in the province are Hwangju, Sohung, Yonthan and Suan counties and Songrim City.

In the province hundreds of thousands of people have turned out every day to overcome the drought, along with tractors, lorries, water pumps, sprinklers and other means.

In all likelihood, it is hard to expect harvest of wheat, barley and potato in the province.
